Lakehead University is an innovative university established in 1965 with campuses in Thunder Bay and Orillia, Ontario, Canada. George Brown College of Applied Arts and Technology is a public college of applied arts and technology with three campuses spread across downtown Toronto, Ontario. The college was established in the year1966 by the government of Ontario.The Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology came into existence on May 21, 1965. The college was previously known as the Provincial Institute of Trades (PIT).It was founded in 1951 to offer apprentice training on behalf of the provincial Department of Labour and offered programs in lathing and structural steel, barbering, diesel mechanics, jewelry arts, watchmaking and welding by 1961. In 1962 the province opened The Provincial Institute of Trades and Occupations(PITO) is another affiliated training institute of the same.It was later that George Brown College merged both the PIT and PITO and opened its Kensington and Casa Loma campuses. Durham College

Founded in 1967, the college had 16 portable classrooms, 14 staff and 205 students, offering courses in applied arts, business and technology. The college soon added courses in health sciences and adult training and grew to 1,250 students by its 10th anniversary. In the 1980s, the enrolment increased to 2,700 and further expansion of the facilities, including the construction of a new robotics lab, the precursor to the Integrated Manufacturing Centre has resulted in the establishment of the campus that we see today. The college has effectively managed to established partnerships with York and Trent universities, that first brought university courses to the Durham College Oshawa campus, and then with the University of Ontario Institute of Technology (UOIT) which opened in 2003. Durham and UOIT have established a post-secondary partnership, sharing a campus, some facilities and selected services.

St. Lawrence College (SLC) specializes in Applied Arts and Technology with three campuses in Eastern Ontario, namely Brockville, Cornwall and Kingston. Before 1060s, it used to be the only college of technology and vocational teaching. The college co-existed with universities in the province of Ontario at the post-secondary level and most of those schools served the purpose of helping veterans reintegrate into society in the post-war years. Brockville was originally proposed as the site for the main campus of St. Lawrence College, but Kingston was ultimately selected since its larger population base would allow it to support a full campus.
