The University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) has been formerly known as University College of the Fraser Valley and is a Canadian public university with campuses spread across Abbotsford, Chilliwack, Mission and Hope and British Columbia. This institution for higher education was founded in 1974 as Fraser Valley College, originated as the need for expanded vocational training in the communities became necessary. It became a university college in the year 1988 with degree-granting status. Later on, the institution grew owning to the excellent quality of education it provides. The University of the Fraser Valley is now one of the largest university colleges in Canada. In recognition of the growing needs for higher education within the region and in the province, the government provided full university status in 2008. The university enrols over 15,000 students annually now.
